The story of filmmaker Brian Herzlinger’s personal quest to score a date with his idol Drew Barrymore in 30 days or less comes through with.

In this TV reality show masquerading as a movie documentary, Brian Herzlinger is a creepy voyeur, a run-of-the-mill loser who obsesses about living the celebrity high life but lacks the talent to pull it off. He gives himself 30 days to complete the task, enlisting the help of two film-school friends, Brett Winn and Jon Gunn, also living in L. But as Herz- linger gets closer to Day 30, his irritating act breaks down. Afterward, we see Herzlinger lamenting that he became such a blubbering fool when introduced to her that he could not even shake her hand properly.

‘Date’ fails to make a good impression

If one had to classify My Date with Drew , it would fall under the documentary umbrella. A more honest appraisal, however, would be to call it “reality TV” for the big screen. After all, it has the same quintessential appeal: an “everyman” as the protagonist, an unscripted narrative, and plenty of spontaneous action. Although My Date with Drew has a straightforward and feather-light premise, it stumbles, perhaps unwittingly, into deep waters.
